CommentCaptured on Thanksgiving evening 1984 at the Milestone in Charlotte, NC, this performance succeeds in showing off the guitar interplay and musical power that their studio albums never did. Recorded by rock scribe Fred Mills, the show ended up on a Spanish bootleg LP in ‘86 thanks to European tape traders. Mills, besides supplying the original master tape, contributes extensive notes to this package (along with Jud Cost and James Fender).This CD was digitally mastered using Sonic SolutionsTM to bring out the true psychedelic cowboy flavor. |

Chill-music Katalog 18, November 1988Welch eine irre gute Band True West waren, wird mit diesem Livemitschnitt vom November 84 aus dem Milestone in Charlotte, North Carolina nochmal obereindrucksvoll belegt! Es ist zwar nur eine Walkman-Aufnahme (Stereo und nicht so übel!), aber sie bringt die Band - wohl auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere - kompetent rüber. Bis auf Russ Tolman, der sich hier mit Richard McGarth traumhafte, geradezu psychedelische Gitarreninterplays leistet, die an Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Quicksilver Messenger Service und Dream Syndicate erinnern, sind die übrigen Musiker heute leider nicht mehr aktiv. Besonders Sänger/Frontman Gavin Blair geriert sich wie eine aufgedrehte Mischung aus Steve Wynn, Lou Reed und Tom Verlaine. Über eine Stunde mit 'And Then The Rain', 'Hold On', 'Look Around', 'Hollywood Holiday'. Die Fremdtitel sind von lggy Pop ('Lust For Life'), Yardbirds ('Happenings Ten Years Time Ago'), Elvis ('Suspicious Minds') und 'Lucifer Sam' von Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett. Historisch!! |
