The Long Ryders

l2r: McCarthy, Griffin, Sowders, StevensFormed in 1981 they included three ex-members of The Unclaimed - Sid Griffin, Barry Shank and Matt Roberts. Steve Wynn completed the early line up, but was replaced by Stephen McCarthy on leaving to form The Dream Syndicate. As Part of the L.A. "Paisley Underground" movement, The Long Ryders' history is closely linked with other guitar-oriented bands, although their sound was always more explicitly 'country' than their contemporaries.
The album "Native Sons" suggested a promising future, but the band was unable to repeat it's balance of melody and purpose and the group finally broke up in 1987.
