Frontier Records Information

The MummyDogs formed in northern California several times between 1996 and 2000. They named themselves after the frankfurters that go round and round at the mini-market and are never purchased. First they learned the theme song for the '60s cartoon show "King Kong." Like their namesake, it was funny and sad and kind of Egyptian. Following detours through Barry White, Ennio Morricone, delta blues and cracker country, the MummyDogs developed a grungy melodic pop sound laced with maracas and feedback.
Paul Takushi (drums) and Cary Rodda (bass) build a corral for Guy Kyser's overheated acoustic guitar and Johanna Kyser's rumbling keyboard. The MummyDogs include former members of Thin White Rope, Chance the Gardener, Beatrice 9, Jem and Scout, and Thornucopia.

When Thin White Rope broke up in 1992, they broke the rock world's heart at the same time. Ten years on: the return of Guy Kyser should be greeted with a frenzied anticipation akin to the second coming of Christ.
